Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant

It is located on Dapeng Peninsula in Dapeng New District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, Chinese mainland (22°36′33.28″N, 114°33′08.30″E), 51 kilometers away from Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong in a straight line. It was jointly built and operated by Guangdong Nuclear Power Investment Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong Nuclear Power Investment Co., Ltd. and is under the jurisdiction of China General Nuclear Power Corporation. It has two 1 million kilowatt pressurized water reactor units, with 70% of the electricity generated supplied to Hong Kong and 30% to Guangdong. Construction began in 1987 and it was officially put into commercial operation on May 6, 1994. Later, Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant was built beside Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, and the two together form a large nuclear power base. Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant is the first large-scale commercial nuclear power plant in Chinese mainland and also the first nuclear power plant in the mainland built with foreign technology and funds.
