Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant

It is China's first 300,000-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant, independently designed, constructed and operated by China. It is located in Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province. It is 100% controlled by China National Nuclear Corporation, and the Qinshan Nuclear Power Company is responsible for its operation and management.

The Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant employs the currently mature pressurized water reactor technology in the world. The nuclear island adopts three barriers: fuel cladding, pressure vessel and containment vessel, which can withstand the internal pressure, high temperature and various natural disasters caused by extreme accidents. The first phase project started in 1985 and was completed and put into operation in 1991. Its annual power generation is 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours. The second phase project will expand two 600,000-kilowatt generating units on the original site and started in 1996. The third phase project is a cooperation between the Chinese and Canadian governments, using the heavy water reactor technology provided by Canada to build two 700,000-kilowatt generating units, which was completed in 2003. At 17:00 on January 12, 2015, the No. 2 unit of Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Project, the expansion project of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, was successfully connected to the grid for power generation. By then, all the nine units in the Qinshan Nuclear Power Base have been put into operation, with a total installed capacity of 6.564 million kilowatts and an annual power generation of about 50 billion kilowatt-hours, making it the largest nuclear power base in China in terms of the number of units, reactor types and installed capacity.
