Taishan Nuclear Power Plant

Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co., Ltd. is a Sino-foreign joint venture established by China General Nuclear Power Corporation, Electricité de France, and Guangdong Electric Power Group. It is responsible for the financing, construction, operation, and management of the first phase of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant project, and assumes the ultimate nuclear safety responsibility. On December 11, 2009, the Ministry of Commerce officially approved the joint venture project and issued the Foreign-Invested Enterprise Approval Certificate for the establishment of Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co., Ltd.

The Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is located in Chiqi Town, Taishan City, Guangdong Province. It is planned to build six pressurized water reactor nuclear power units. The first phase of the project introduces the third-generation nuclear power EPR (European Pressurized Reactor) technology to construct two nuclear power units with a single-unit capacity of 1.75 million kilowatts. After the completion of the two units in the first phase of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant project, it can reduce the consumption of standard coal by approximately 8.42 million tons and greenhouse gas emissions by over 22.7 million tons annually. The introduction of advanced European third-generation pressurized water reactor (EPR) nuclear power technology and the construction of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant are important decisions made by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council from the perspective of national energy strategy.
